    Donna Summer — the Queen of Disco — died this morning after a battle with cancer. She was 63.

    The concert at the Philharmonic Center for the Arts Friday night turned into an exercise class for the audience. Over and over it was jump up, clap hands, shout, sit down, jump up, shout, clap hands, whistle.

    But exercise is good for us.

    Robi Estrada blasted a two-run homer in the second inning to lift the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 3-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle on Wednesday at Hammond Stadium.

MAY, 2012

May 16~ FREE Physician's Regional Womens Health seminar at either 5:30 PM or 8:00 PM. Meet physicians and health care specialists and enjoy free refreshments. Plenty of seating available, but please register by going to website. 8300 Collier Boulevard in Naples between Rattlesnake Hammock Rd. and Lely Blvd. in the Hospital Dining Rm and Education Rm. Free parking in the hospital parking area and enter through the visitor's entrance.

May 18~ Golf Tournament to benefit Grace Place's mission of literacy, language and life skills. Held at Naples Heritage Golf Club, 1PM Shotgun start. Dinner and silent auction at 5:30PM. See website for sponsorship opportunities and registration information.

May 19~ Sun Media Hurricane Expo, 10AM at the Charlote Harbor Event & Conference Center, 75 Taylor St. in Punta Gorda. Vendors from the area will have booths lined up for the day long event. It is being presented to help area residents prepare for hurricane season. 

May 19 & 20 ~ Tarpon Festival in Boca Grande in conjunction with three Tarpon Tournaments taking place: the World's Richest, Gasparilla Island Kids Classic and Ladies Day Tarpon Tournaments. Festival includes an art show, Mote Marine mobile aquarium and exhibit and more! See website for more info.

May 26~ Car Cruise-In 5pm – 8pm  in the Fort Myers  historic downtown River District along First Street. FREE to attend, it features vintage, modern, and unique cars every 4th Saturday of the month. 2282 First Street.

May 26~ Pre-Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony at 11:00 AM in Port Charlotte at El Jobean Park, 4333 El Jobean Rd. Flag details, Honor guards, Gun volleys and Taps.

May 28~ Memorial Day 5K Run on the Green from 6:30 am - 9:30 am at Eastwood Golf Course in fort Myers. Medals awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish in each age group. Registrants will receive - Race T-Shirt, Post-Race Refreshments and will be eligible for door prizes if present after the race. Online registration at www.ftmyerstrackclub.com.

May 28~ Memorial Day Ceremony at Fishermen's Village in Punta Gorda. Beginning at 11:00 Patriotic music will be performed by Charlotte High School's Band, and at noon, keynote speaker Charlotte County Commissioner Stephen R. Deutsch, followed by a reception in Museum. June 1 ~ ART WALK with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and shows from 6 to 10 p.m. This regular cultural event on the first Friday each month in the downtown Fort Myers River District.

June 16 ~ SummerJazz on the Gulf concert series Saturday  from 7 to 10 p.m. Featuring Legendary J.C.'s at the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club on the resort's Watkins Lawn overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.

 

JULY, 2012
