WAVV IS NO LONGER STREAMING
It is with regret that we inform our many online listeners that as of August 15, WAVV-101.1 will no longer be able to stream our signal online. Our contract with our streaming provider ends on that date, and they have opted not to renew our contract due to the significant expense for artist royalties.
For your information; any company that plays copyrighted music over the internet is required to pay the artists and performers for the right to play their material. These payments are collected and distributed to the artists by an organization called SoundExchange. The fees are tallied through a formula that’s based upon the total number of listeners, and how long they listen. For WAVV, this expense is in addition to what the station already pays to the other copyright regulators BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC, for the rights to play this music via our regular over-the-air broadcast.
Due to the immense popularity of WAVV’s exclusive and proprietory music format, the cost of these royalties has escalated to a point that the expense has become unsustainable for both our streaming provider and the station. We have found no other provider that is able to accommodate us in an acceptable manner. Thus, we have no choice but to discontinue our online streaming.
WAVV will, of course, continue to provide our format of Modern Easy Favorites, via our 100,000-watt broadcast signal, serving our Southwest Florida listening area at 101.1 FM.
We prefer to get your comments in writing, however if you must call the station, a recorded comment line will be provided.
